A Coastal Christmas Landmark: The Lobster Pot Tree at The Osea View Café
This December, the Essex coast has a new festive landmark – our very own Lobster Pot Christmas Tree, now glowing on the banks of the Blackwater Estuary just outside the Osea View Café.
Designed by local artist and owner of Osea Leisure and The Osea View Café, Janie Robinson, the installation has been created entirely from real fishing gear. Many of the materials were rescued directly from the sea – old oars, weathered rope, stray buoys and discarded pots – all carefully gathered and transformed into something beautiful. Giving these rescued sea-worn objects a second life feels especially meaningful as we raise money this Christmas for the RNLI, whose volunteers work tirelessly to keep our coastline safe.

Wrapped in hundreds of lights, the tree has already become a talking point for visitors and sits beautifully against the winter estuary sky. Photographer James Crisp captured the moment perfectly in his stunning image that accompanies this blog.
Supporting the RNLI
We’re incredibly proud that the tree is helping to raise vital funds for the RNLI. Over £1000 has already been donated, and every penny goes directly to the charity. If you would like to support the lifeboat crews who protect our shores, you can donate via our JustGiving page:
Be Part of the Story
If you visit the café and stop to admire the tree, we’d love you to help spread the word. Take a photo, share it on Instagram or Facebook and tag @theoseaview – it all helps raise awareness for the RNLI fundraiser and celebrates this unique coastal creation.
With heartfelt thanks,
